Light Bulb Exchange
11 a.m. –3 p.m., Birch Aquarium at Scripps
Trade in old light bulbs for new, energy-efficient models for free and get 2-for-1 same-day aquarium admission. San Diego County residents can exchange up to five incandescent light bulbs for compact fluorescent lights, while supplies last. CFLs use 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs, create 75% less heat and last 10 times longer. Participants must bring a copy of their current San Diego Gas & Electric utility bill or a California ID to prove San Diego County residency. Family Days: Fascinating Flourescence
11 a.m. –3 p.m., Birch Aquarium at Scripps
Get up-close to the aquarium's corals, jellies and anemones that can absorb light and emit a soft glow. Meet Scripps Oceanography graduate students who are pioneering new uses of marine fluorescence and make a glowy-showy craft. Also, check out the winning entries of Boys & Girls Club Earth Day art contest, coordinated by Nokia. Family Days is a monthly program that encourages family learning through a blend of arts, crafts, science and one-of-a-kind activities for all ages. Included with aquarium admission.

 

Great Campus Race
1–4 p.m., Geisel Library
All UCSD students are invited to compete for prizes by using teamwork, brain power and speed. Teams of two will receive a list of clues. The answer to each clue will correspond to a campus location. Racers may use any means to solve clues and are encouraged to call friends or use the Internet. The first team to be photographed at each of the locations and return to the finish line will win.
